New Delhi: In a significant boost to the Make-in-India programme, India Optel Limited (IOL), a state-run company, has signed a collaboration agreement with France-based Safran Electronics and Defence for the transfer of production of two high-precision, combat-proven defence systems, enabling their manufacturing in India.
The agreement covers the SIGMA 30N Digital Ring Laser Gyro Inertial Navigation System and the CM3-MR Direct Firing Sight, both of which are widely deployed on frontline platforms.
The SIGMA 30N system is used in artillery guns, air defence systems, missiles, and radars, while the CM3-MR sight is designed for artillery guns and emerging anti-drone systems, enhancing accuracy and battlefield effectiveness.

The pact was signed on December 22, 2025, here by IOL Chairman and Managing Director Tushar Tripathi and Safran Electronics and Defence global business unit head for defence, Alexandre Ziegler, in the presence of India Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar.
Building on a memorandum of understanding signed in January 2024, the latest agreement formalises the commitment of both partners to manufacture, support, and sustain these advanced systems domestically.
Under the collaboration, IOL will handle manufacturing, final assembly, testing, quality assurance, and complete life-cycle support, ensuring the systems meet the operational requirements of the Indian Army.
By combining IOL’s industrial capabilities with Safran’s expertise in inertial navigation and fire-control technologies, the partnership strengthens India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, reduces dependence on imports, and enhances the readiness and performance of the country’s land forces.
