New Delhi: India has taken a major leap in long-range artillery firepower with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducting the maiden flight test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR-120), capable of striking targets up to 120 km away with high precision.
The test was carried out on December 29, 2025, at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, marking a significant milestone in India’s indigenous rocket artillery programme.
During the trial, the guided rocket executed all planned in-flight manoeuvres and impacted the designated target with textbook accuracy, validating its guidance, navigation, and control systems.,
All range instrumentation tracked the rocket throughout its trajectory, confirming that mission objectives were fully met.

The LRGR-120 has been designed by DRDO’s Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), with critical contributions from the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), and Research Centre Imarat (RCI).
Importantly, the rocket was fired from the in-service Pinaka launcher, underscoring the system’s versatility to launch multiple Pinaka variants from a common platform.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the achievement as a “game changer” that will significantly enhance the Indian Armed Forces’ long-range strike capability. DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V. Kamat, who witnessed the test, congratulated the teams for the successful demonstration.
