Operation Sindoor Sent Shockwaves: Rajnath Singh Hails IAF Lightning Strikes, Air Power Dominance, and New Indian Warfare Doctrine

New Delhi: India’s ability to execute high-impact, short-duration military operations was decisively demonstrated during Operation Sindoor, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on December 18, 2025, asserting that the Indian Air Force (IAF) has emerged as a technologically advanced and strategically confident force capable of safeguarding national interests in an increasingly volatile global order.

Addressing the Air Force Commanders’ Conclave in New Delhi, Singh lauded the IAF for the speed, precision, and courage with which it destroyed terror camps during the operation, while also effectively countering what he described as Pakistan’s “irresponsible reaction” following the strikes.

He underlined that the calm response of Indian civilians during attempted retaliatory targeting by Pakistan reflected deep public trust in India’s air defence preparedness.

“Usually, when the enemy attacks, people hide. But the people of India continued with their daily routines. This shows their confidence in our Armed Forces,” he said.

Placing Operation Sindoor in a broader strategic context, the Defence Minister noted that modern conflicts — from the Russia-Ukraine war and Israel-Hamas conflict to the Balakot air strikes — have firmly established air power as a decisive factor in warfare.

He stressed that air power is no longer merely a tactical tool but a strategic instrument, defined by speed, surprise, and shock.

According to Rajnath Singh, the ability to deliver swift, precise strikes allows national leadership to send an unmistakable strategic message while aligning political objectives with military means.

Singh also highlighted the robust performance of India’s integrated air defence systems during Operation Sindoor and reaffirmed the Modi government’s commitment to strengthening national security.

He pointed out that 21st-century warfare extends beyond conventional weapons into domains such as cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, unmanned systems, satellite-based surveillance, and space-enabled capabilities.

Precision-guided munitions, real-time intelligence, and data-driven decision-making, he said, are now basic requirements for success on the modern battlefield.

Looking ahead, the Defence Minister expressed confidence in the upcoming ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ air defence initiative, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day address, calling it a crucial shield for protecting critical national assets.

He also reiterated that the development of indigenous jet engines has been declared a national mission, underscoring India’s push for self-reliance in defence technologies.

Singh highlighted the growing role of the private sector, start-ups, and MSMEs in defence modernisation through initiatives such as iDEX and ADITI.

As of November 2025, 672 winners have emerged from 565 iDEX challenges, including 96 winners linked to IAF-specific requirements, an indicator of rising youth participation and innovation in defence manufacturing.

Describing Operation Sindoor as a model of tri-service synergy, Singh stressed the importance of jointness among the Army, Navy, and Air Force to effectively counter future threats.

He also praised the IAF’s consistent Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions at home and abroad, noting that such operations have further strengthened public trust in the force.

The conclave was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and senior IAF commanders. Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh, the Chief of Air Staff, briefed the Defence Minister on operational readiness, as IAF leadership deliberated on future priorities, emerging challenges, and advancing Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence capabilities.
