New Delhi: In a major boost to the Army’s armoured warfare capabilities, the Ministry of Defence on Nov. 13, 2025, inked an INR 2,096-crore contract with state-run Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the procurement of INVAR laser-guided anti-tank missiles.

The deal, signed under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category, reinforces the government’s push to accelerate defence indigenisation under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative.

The signing ceremony took place at South Block in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, alongside senior MoD officials and BDL representatives.

Why These Missiles Matter

The INVAR missile will be integrated with the T-90 main battle tank, the backbone of India’s armoured regiments.

Known for its high hit probability and precision due to its laser-guided technology, the INVAR significantly enhances the tank’s lethality, especially against heavily armoured enemy formations.

Officials said the induction of the missile is expected to transform mechanised operations, providing the Army with a sharper tactical edge along sensitive frontiers.

Self-Reliance on Track

The Defence Ministry emphasised that the procurement demonstrates India’s determination to harness the expertise of state-run defence manufacturers while encouraging private industry to develop niche technologies.

Such large-scale orders, especially under the Buy (Indian) category, are central to reducing dependency on foreign suppliers.

Market Reaction

Shares of Bharat Dynamics Limited closed 1.07% lower at INR 1,517.90 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), even as the stock has surged 55% in the past year.

Market analysts remain broadly bullish: Recommended a “buy,” with a projected 16.4% upside over the next 12 months.
