New Delhi: Adani Defence & Aerospace, a unit of the Adani Group, has been named the recipient of the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) Champion Award 2025 for excellence in design, manufacturing, and testing, the company announced on Nov. 1, 2025.
The honour recognises the group’s state-of-the-art Ammunition Complex in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and was presented by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The 500-acre Adani Ammunition Complex, billed by the company as India’s most integrated ammunition manufacturing ecosystem, employs Industry 4.0 practices, automation, and AI-driven precision systems to manufacture small, medium, and large-calibre ammunition, the company said.
According to Adani Defence & Aerospace, these systems are designed to deliver consistency, safety, and higher quality across the production line.

Adani Defence & Aerospace CEO Ashish Rajvanshi described the SIDM recognition as a validation of the company’s efforts to build an indigenous, technology-led defence manufacturing base.
“The SIDM Champion Award is a testament to our efforts to create an indigenous, technology-driven defence manufacturing ecosystem that enhances the nation’s self-reliance and strengthens its strategic readiness,” he said.
Rajvanshi added that the complex demonstrates how scale and digital innovation can reposition India as a global manufacturing hub.
The facility has already signalled plans to ramp up output: in August, the Kanpur unit announced intentions to nearly double bullet production over the coming months.
Rajvanshi told journalists via video conference that Adani Group plans to invest INR 7,000 crore in the coming years to expand capabilities at the site.
He also said missiles would be produced at the Kanpur facility, citing a planned investment of USD 1 million for that effort, and that production of larger-calibre ammunition would begin soon.
Beyond ammunition, Rajvanshi said the complex would support the manufacture of a broader range of defence systems, including bulletproof jackets, drones, and airborne platforms such as helicopters and fighter aircraft, measures the company says will strengthen the government’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) initiatives.
The SIDM Champion Award places Adani Defence & Aerospace among a growing set of private-sector firms driving India’s push for self-reliant defence production.
With expanded capacity, advanced automation, and fresh capital commitments, the Kanpur complex is positioned to play a pivotal role in meeting the armed forces’ ammunition needs while supporting India’s ambition to export defence hardware in the future.
