Mumbai: In a landmark display of inter-service cooperation, the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Coast Guard (ICG) have completed their first-ever joint scuba diving expedition, titled “Forging Bonds Beneath the Waves.”

The week-long adventure, held from Oct. 8, 2025, off the Vijaydurg coast in Maharashtra, brought together 20 divers from both forces aboard ICG Ship Sujeet, according to a post by the Indian Coast Guard.

The divers carried out precision dives at Angria Bank, a unique and ecologically rich underwater plateau in the Arabian Sea, highlighting the importance of marine conservation.

The expedition was flagged off by IAF’s Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Organisation & Ceremonial) Air Vice Marshal Manish Khullar, and Coast Guard District HQ Goa Commander.

Designed to strengthen operational coordination, teamwork, and environmental awareness, the venture underscored the growing synergy between India’s air and maritime forces. “Together, we dive deeper for nation, nature, and unity,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.

Adding to the significance of the occasion, a restored Hindustan Trainer-2 (HT-2) — India’s first indigenous military aircraft — was displayed to the public during the event, marking a tribute to the country’s aviation heritage and spirit of innovation.
