Bengaluru (Karnataka): India’s state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Management Academy, the nodal training agency of HAL, and the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Dharwad, (IIIT-Dharwad) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in advanced technologies.
The partnership would focus on joint research, internships, and technical education in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, AR/VR, and Digital Manufacturing, particularly in applications relevant to the aerospace and defence sectors, a HAL statement said. This partnership would enhance knowledge-sharing and innovation, benefiting both industry and academia.
“Under this MoU, HAL officers will have opportunities to pursue higher education programmes at IIIT Dharwad, while students will gain hands-on experience through internships at HAL’s various divisions. The collaboration includes joint workshops, technical paper publications, and faculty exchange programmes,” it said.

HAL Management Academy Executive Director Dr G. Srikantha Sharma and IIIT-Dharward Director Prof. S. R. Mahadeva Prasanna emphasized that the collaboration aligns with both organizations’ mission of applying cutting-edge technology to solve industry challenges.
HAL Chairman and Managing Director Dr D. K. Sunil and Executive Director M. G., Balasubrahmanya were present when the MoU was signed. “The MoU marks a significant step toward fostering research, upskilling professionals, and developing technological solutions for the aerospace and defence industries.”
