New Delhi: In a major boost to indigenous defence innovation, India has granted a patent to the Army’s ‘Vidyut Rakshak,’ an integrated generator monitoring, protection, and control system developed by Major Rajprasad RS of the Corps of Engineers.
Announcing the achievement on X, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) of the Indian Army said that the innovation marks another milestone in the Army’s pursuit of technological self-reliance.
“Indian Army achieved yet another milestone with a patent granted for the in-house innovation ‘Vidyut Rakshak,’ developed by Major Rajprasad RS. This indigenous innovation enables integrated monitoring, protection, and control of multiple generators and power systems, agnostic of type, make, rating, or vintage, thereby optimising resources and enhancing operational efficiency,” the ADG PI stated.

What does Vidyut Rakshak achieve?
The ‘Vidyut Rakshak’ has been designed to provide real-time monitoring and control across different generator types and capacities, making it particularly valuable for deployment in challenging terrains and high-altitude areas where reliability is critical.
Reflecting the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Indian Army emphasised that the system is already being widely employed across various formations, especially in remote operational zones.
What are Vidyut Rakshak’s features?
According to the official patent certificate, the intellectual property has been granted for a period of 20 years from June 13, 2023, under the provisions of the Patents Act, 1970.
A video released by the Indian Army highlighted the innovation’s key features, including a modular, compact, and lightweight design; real-time monitoring of electrical and mechanical parameters; predictive fault prevention; a user-friendly graphical dashboard; and automation of previously manual processes.
How has Major Rajprasad contributed to innovation?
Major Rajprasad has been at the forefront of indigenous defence innovation. In June 2025, he received the NSG Counter IED Innovator Award from Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan for two of his earlier innovations: Agniastra, a multi-target portable remote detonation system, and Shatrunash, a handheld EMP gun.
Three of his innovations have already been inducted into service, underscoring the growing role of in-house technological talent in enhancing India’s operational readiness and self-reliant defence ecosystem.
