New Delhi: Indonesia has signed an agreement with India to buy the BrahMos cruise missile, and would conclude a likely USD 350-million contract in the next quarter.
The agreement is for one battery of the BrahMos, the world’s only operational supersonic cruise missile, for Indonesia’s coastal defence, according to Indian officials, who know the details.
A report from Jakarta on March 9, 2026, quoted Indonesian Defence Ministry spokesperson Rico Ricardo Sirait as confirming the BrahMos agreement with India.
BrahMos, probably the longest-range artillery weapon already deployed in the Indian armed forces service, is a joint venture between India and Russia.
BrahMos missiles were effectively used by India during the May 2025 Operation Sindoor, in response to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, to take out terrorist camps and military infrastructure inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The Indonesia-India BrahMos agreement was “part of the modernisation of military hardware and defence capabilities, especially in the maritime sector,” Rico was quoted as saying.
The Philippines was the first Southeast Asian nation to buy the BrahMos missile from India in 2022. The Indonesian deal is the second BrahMos export contract for India.
India and Russia jointly decide on the export of the BrahMos missiles to friendly foreign countries, as both have an almost equal share in the joint venture, and the critical technologies that go into the BrahMos come from Russia.
Indonesia is currently arranging funding for the purchase from one of its banks, and the final contract will be signed in the next quarter, Indian officials indicated.
India would supply the 290-km-range BrahMos missile to Indonesia. The supersonic cruise missile comes in multiple variants, such as ground attack, anti-ship, and coastal defence roles.
