New Delhi: India has taken a significant leap in its tactical missile capability with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carrying out a salvo launch of two Pralay missiles in quick succession from the same launcher, underscoring the system’s combat readiness and reliability.
The flight tests were conducted at around 10:30 am on December 31, 2025, off the coast of Odisha from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, the Ministry of Defence said in a Press Information Bureau statement.
Executed as part of user evaluation trials, the launches saw both missiles accurately follow their planned trajectories and meet all mission objectives, the statement said.
Tracking sensors deployed by ITR confirmed the missiles’ performance, while telemetry systems installed onboard a ship near the impact zone validated the terminal events.
Pralay is an indigenously developed solid-propellant, quasi-ballistic missile designed for high-precision strikes against a wide spectrum of targets.
Featuring advanced guidance and navigation systems, the missile can carry multiple types of warheads, giving the Indian Army and Indian Air Force greater operational flexibility in conventional battlefield scenarios.
The successful salvo launch is particularly significant as it demonstrates the missile’s ability to be fired rapidly from the same launcher, a key requirement in high-intensity conflict environments.
The missile has been developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, along with several other DRDO laboratories, including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory and Armament Research and Development Establishment.
Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) acted as development-cum-production partners and integrated the systems for the trials.
The tests were witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, user representatives from the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, and industry partners.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the achievement, stating that the successful salvo launch establishes the reliability of the Pralay missile. DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat said the outcome indicates the system’s imminent induction into operational service.
