Chandipur (Balasore, Odisha): India today successfully flight-tested indigenous Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (or QRSAM) against live targets, validating the technology.
India’s Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) tested the missiles against an aerial target, this time a Meggitt‘s Banshee target drone for aerial target practice, from the Integrated Test Range here.
Two missiles, developed by DRDO, were tested against two live targets meeting complete mission objectives of engaging the targets. QRSAM, with many latest technologies, engaged the targets at different ranges and altitudes, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement, but did not give specifics.
The statement also said:
- The systems have been tested in final configuration with radar mounted on a vehicle and missiles on the launcher.
- The systems are equipped with indigenously-developed Phased array radar, Inertial Navigation System, Data Link and Radio Frequency seeker.
- The entire mission was captured by various Electro Optical Tracking Systems, Radar Systems and Telemetry Systems.
The system is being developed for Indian Army with search-and-track-on-move capability with very short reaction time.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated the DRDO and the Indian industries on achieving the significant milestone.
